Family Screening

The strong genetic link in coeliac disease means that it is important that all immediate family members are screened following the diagnosis of one member of the family. This refers to grandparents, parents, adult siblings, and children who may also have the genes that are associated with coeliac disease (HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8).

Family Screening Letter

Our Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) have created a family screening letter that is designed to be given to close family members of those diagnosed with coeliac disease, so they can take it to their own GP to help with discussions about screening for coeliac disease.

The letter provides the GP with information regarding testing and correct diagnosis.
