Living with Diabetes and Coeliac Disease
This booklet has been developed
in conjunction with Diabetes Australia to assist people and parents of
children with both type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus and coeliac
disease. This booklet can also be modified to guide adults who develop both
coeliac disease and type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus.
Both type 1 diabetes mellitus
and coeliac disease are lifelong conditions. To stay healthy it is important
for a person with both conditions to look after their diabetes and make the
changes suggested in this booklet to make sure the diet is gluten free.

Although it can sometimes be
difficult balancing the demands placed on a person with both diabetes and
coeliac disease, the rewards are great in that they will feel fit and healthy
and children will grow and develop normally. It is recommended that a person
with both conditions return for regular consults with their endocrinologist,
diabetes educator and dietitian.
In each quarterly edition of The
Australian Coeliac magazine, the society includes the nutrient analysis
information for the recipes in the Food News section. |
