A Member's Story on Feeling Better
Looking for Children and Adults with Coeliac Disease
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute are seeking research participants! We want to study coeliac disease in children and how it is different from adults, in order to design better treatments and diagnostic tests. We also want to assess the impact of coeliac genes on the immune response and to find ways to overcome the symptoms of coeliac disease.
We are seeking help from children and adults with coeliac disease on a gluten free diet, aged 3-70 years, who are prepared to eat some gluten for up to 3-days.
The study will test the coeliac gene and antibody levels. Volunteers will eat a gluten meal for up to 3-days followed by a blood test which will profile the body's responses.
The research is being led by Dr Jason Tye-Din at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and Prof Don Cameron at The Royal Children’s Hospital, both located in Parkville. There is Human Research Ethics Committee approval at all participating sites and information is kept strictly confidential.
To find out more about these studies, please contact the Research Co-ordinator Ms Cathy Pizzey, email coeliac@wehi.edu.au, or phone 9345 2300 and leave a message.
